This is a low tech idea making people aware of their energy output. Basically a "smart board" monitors the electricity usage and the numbers are written on GIANT blackboards hung on their balcony.
The guys, sorry Doctors, at the Uni of Sydney knocked up this idea and had it going for a couple months. Subtly titled: "Comparative Feedback in the Street: Exposing Residential Energy Consumption on House Facades," (smooth) the project "studied the energy consumption of 11 households in Darlington, Sydney, in November 2010."
There were graphs and frowny faces and colour and rankings. Electricity: THE GAME! So going back to game theory - it utilises important issues and changed the way the residents viewed their usage by essentially turning it into a competition. Yay team!
