In my mind:
1. concept = idea (eg I want to make people aware of their energy use)
2. metaphor = to say one thing is another (eg theme/element/style whatever) which is then applied to the concept.
Cofa tutors tend to see it compiled. Which is fine. Except when I explain something, it usually follows a 'functional' then 'artistic' approach. I've been messing around with the idea that the resources we use at home are our life-source/blood/fuel etc Whatever spin you put on it, we need them to survive in 'modern society' (which is another phrase that drives me crazy). Eh. So the metaphor im experimenting with is 'pulse' (and yes I know its a boring, overused theme, but its a work in progress!)
These few images show some projects over a range of media that utilise the "pulse" idea and chuck it in their 'concept'.
Pulse, by Christian Ferrara and Jon McTaggart is an "analog reaction to this digital information overload, but it's every bit as cloud-connected as your averge app...it's a USB-powered, mechanically armed line graph, sucking in web iniformation and using mathematical models to convey it." (fastcodesign)
Pulse by Faith Can Sarioz is a seat and magazine rack for offices and waiting rooms.
Hanin N. Bader created this bumper for a conference and named it Synapse. While its not entirely "pulse" it still has that vibe.
So after this I was thinking of resting vs high/max heart rates and attributing that to resource usage. Exercise - using stored energy and exerting sweat. Kinda like using a lamp for an hour and paying an amount of money for electricity. Ugh. Im tired. Just go with it. So pulse rates - heart beat in ears, blood rushing through system, breathing becomes laboured, sweat appears, lactic acid builds that burns your muscles etc (if you exercise that is). Maybe the entire house to start to pulse when you've reached a pre-determined level?
